Just another day in the land of the Mess

Around 24 hours ago the Mets were getting blown out by the Padres, and nobody who is a Mets fan seemed to care. The Mets were finally adding the final piece to the puzzle, Carlos Gomez.

About 11 PM last night, the Mets were again the Mets. Terry Collins had a very bizarre press conference and Sandy Alderson announced that the Mets were no longer trading for Carlos Gomez. The deal fell through because the Mets looked at Gomez's medical records and there was some cause for concern, which is reasonable, considering how significantly his numbers are down this season.

The only problem with that is, Sandy Alderson teased his fans, he showed them a sign of life, that this team is devoted to winning this season. Until he pulled the plug on the deal because of an injury concern. Now, do not get me wrong there is still about 20 hours left for them to acquire a big bat, but Carlos Gomez was the perfect fit. He solved so many problems, for just about 2 hours.

Now, Gomez can solve the Astros's problems, as he was just traded to them. Also, guess what?!?!? The Astros found absolutely no issues with Gomez's medical records. Go figure....

Today, Carlos Gomez could not have saved the Mets. Terry Collins mis-managed his bullpen for the 2nd time in a week, and cost the Mets another series win. Putting in your closer, who just sat for 45 minutes after a rain delay, is a fire able offense. All you needed was 1 out, and you could have gotten away with pitching one of the Torrii for one batter. But that did not happen, the Mets "needed" Familia to record a meaningless stat, and he ended up blowing his 3rd straight game since the all-star break.

I do not know how we Mets fans do it anymore, this team is as inconsistent as they come and continue to disappoint us fans as soon as we think they are turning the corner. It is only a matter of time before the Nationals start to pull away.

For now, we can only hope that Sandy Alderson and his front office acquire a guy like Jay Bruce before tomorrow's big series vs the Nationals. If not, the Mets will probably get swept again and just waive the white flag on the season. At least they got us until August!
