Sandy Alderson has finally awaken, acquires Uribe and Johnson.

Today was one of the better days in Flushing. The Mets traded two minor league pitchers, John Gant and Rob Whalen for two proven major league veterans, Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson. They also promoted Michael Conforto too.

Obviously this was a move that had to be made, the Mets have been dying since June for veteran depth and they finally got it. The only complaint you can make about this trade is that it came too late. Juan Uribe can fill in at 3rd Base for the time being and the Mets could shift Daniel Murphy over to 1st Base, to spell a struggling Lucas Duda. Kelly Johnson provides the Mets a threat and a spark off the bench, one not provided from the likes of Danny Muno and John Mayberry Jr, both of whom were taken off the active roster after this trade.

This cannot be the only trade the Mets make, they need a Gerrardo Parra or a Jay Bruce in the OF too. That is what worries Mets fans, is this will be the only move they make. Don't get me wrong, Uribe and Johnson will help out big time, but the Mets need more, if they want to grab that 2nd wild card spot.

Overall I like the trade for the Mets, they get two veteran players who can help out this New York 51's roster. It was about time for Sandy Alderson to wipe off the cobwebs from his desk phone. Let's just all hope that this is not the only move that they make, between now and Thursday. Things are looking better and hopefully this floundering team, only one game over .500 can turn it around and make a serious run for the playoffs.
