Mets stumble out of gate after All-Star Break

The All-Star break came at the wrong time for the Mets, like it always does. After getting swept at home by the Cubs, they bounced back and won 7 of their last 9 before entering into the All-Star break. Obviously a break was the last thing needed after the Mets were playing exceptionally well baseball.

I come to you at a time where there is distress in Panic City, this happening after the Mets have dropped two straight to the always tough Cardinals. The Mets stumbled out of the gate like they usually do with Terry Collins after an All-Star break. The thing is, these are teams they have to play competitive with, if they want to finally be playing meaningful baseball in late August and September. If the Mets do not get their crap together soon, there will not be a reason to even trade for help, because it will be too late by July 31st.

I feel as if I am beating a dead horse here, the Mets offense is AAA like and they reflect that almost every night and day. There is only so many times where you can call for the General Managers head. Sandy Alderson has played this way too conservatively, and has really cost his team a shot at a playoff run. With this pitching staff and an average lineup, the Mets could go places. Your issue is, this is not even an average AAA lineup. When you have guys like Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is way way below the Mendoza line, hitting 6th, you know you have an issue. The Mets could have easily fixed this issue long ago, but they keep playing the waiting game. If you wait too long, the season will no longer be in the hands of a winning ball club.

At this point, with David Wright's contract insured and all, I find it hard to believe that the Mets do not have room to take on more money. I think the real issue is your stubborn, over-conservative GM, who refuses to send a life preserver to passenger's on a sinking boat. Right now, he is just re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic.

When there's a will, there's a way, but the Mets are not willing to trade any of their high regarded pitching prospects, so there is no way they will get the star that they are looking for. The Brewers do not want Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, or Michael Cuddyer for Carlos Gomez.

Someway, somehow, the Wilpons/Alderson have to figure it out before they lose 75% of the fan interest before we even hit August. The season to me is over, and today is July 18th, unless you know Alderson proves me wrong (which for the record, I hope happens)
